The Dorset Coastline

The coastline of Dorset stretches from Highcliffe in the east to Lyme Regis in the west. This coastline offers much in the way of scenery, walks, boating, sailing and beaches.

We've broken the Dorset coast into three stretches each of which has it's own unique characteristics.

Highcliffe to Sandbanks

The most easterly stretch of Dorset coast runs from Highcliffe to Mudeford Quay, and includes Friars Cliff and Avon Beach. It is mainly sandy with a shoreline promenade. The cafés and restaurants along the way include the Cliffhanger Café, the most easterly café on the Dorset coastline. More on this section of coastline... Highcliffe to Sandbanks

Studland to Weymouth

The 40 miles of coastline from the ferry terminal at Studland to Weymouth is of a very different nature to that of the stretch from Highcliffe to Sandbanks. The only major town along the way is Swanage and the coastline is mainly a mixture of high cliffs and pebbly beaches. More on this section of coastline... Studland to Weymouth

Portland to Lyme Regis

The Isle of Portland is approached via the A354 road from Weymouth town centre. It covers an area of approximately 8 square miles with 12 miles of rocky coastline. It is served by bus routes from Weymouth and has a number of hotels, bars and restaurants. More on this section of coastline... Portland to Lyme Regis
